His family was in exile in Turkey, and he began his studies in the school of Madame Fyres (1878), finishing them in the Sultanie Lycée of Galatasaray in Istanbul (1894). Toptani’s artistic work is intrinsically linked to his efforts in the struggle for Albanian independence. Works such as the bust of Skanderbeg (bronze, 1917; Tiranë, A.G.) reveal his realistic style, which is permeated by a naive romanticism. His patriotism and romanticism also infect his poetry. Little of his work and his rich private collection of objects of applied Albanian folk art remains, as his house and gallery in Tiranë were burnt down by the anti-patriotic forces in 1913.

Sic e di edhe vete, Shqiperia dhe shqipetaret ishin pjese perberese e Perandorise Osmane per nje kohe te gjate. Kohe qe pa gjenerata te tera shqiptaresh prej lindje ne vdekje me kete Perandori.
Duke i sherbyer Perandorise ata i sherbenin edhe Shqiperise. Nje numer i madh i patrioteve tane qe njohim dhe i madherojme sot i kane sherbyer pa kursim, fund e krye po kesaj Perandorie.

Absolutisht i nje mendjeje me Socion,te rethuar nga fqinj qe ja donin te "miren" Shqiperise Turqia ishte ndoshta e keqja me e vogel per ne dhe te mos Harrojme se shkaku kryesor i fillimit te luftes ballkanike ishte premtimi prej Turqise i krijimit te nje shteti autonom shqiptar qe do te perfshinte te kater vilajetet shqiptare premtim qe shihej nga serbo-greket si realizim i Shqiperise se madhe.Pastaj mbas nje periudhe kohe aq te gjate (5 shekuj) per shume Shqiptar Turqia ishte shteti i tyre legjitim.
Dhe e bëmë me besa besën ja të rrojmë ja të vdesëm!
Ishte thënë prej Zotit që të nderohen armët e Shqipërisë!
Po per mua si turq, sllave ,grek te gjithe nje qellim kan pasur edhe pse sot turkun e quajme moter apo vella, dhe ato qellimet njesoj i kishin si serbi dhe greku. Nga momenti qe mua me mohojne gjuhen,flamurin te gjithe ne nje kazan e fus!
Kam ven re qe ne ditet e sotme kush eshte me anen greke urrein turqit, kush eshte me anen turke urren grekerit, ndersa une uurej cilido qofte qe me ka mohuar Flamure dhe Gjuhe!
Nuk e di mbase jam gabim, por keto fotografi me qeleshet e bardha ne ushtrine turke nuk me pelqejne aspak, edhe pse pak kohe me pare vet turqia kerkoj nga Shqiptaret qe te nderronim shume gjera nga historia e luftes osmane ne librat e shkollave.

As ne nuk na pelqejne por per arsye politike dhe historike te asaj kohe termi Tradhtar eshte pak i forte.Sa per ata qe sot shohin nga turku apo greku i njejti term do te ishte shume i lehte.
Dhe e bëmë me besa besën ja të rrojmë ja të vdesëm!
Ishte thënë prej Zotit që të nderohen armët e Shqipërisë!

Tradita te vjetra shqiptare qe sot jane zhdukur apo nuk ekzistojne me. Fotoja eshte marre ne Mirdite ne vitin 1944. Mirditori qe shihni ne foto nuk eshte duke fjetur, por ka vdekur perpara se te fotografohej ne kete pozicion.
Ka te beje me nje tradite te vjeter ne Mirdite. Luftetari i vdekur gjate kohes se funeralit nuk vendoset ne arkivol por vishet dhe sajohet ne menyre te tille sikur te ishe gjalle, deri tek detajet me te vogla siç eshte cigarja (qe shihni ne doren e djathte te tij), per te pritur mysafiret ne pershendetjen e fundit. Kjo tradite eshte zhdukur ne dekadat e para te shekullit te kaluar.
