The Praetorian Guard
The increasing Gothic and Scythian pressure on the northern frontier along the Danube led Rome to make constructive use of its warlike Illyrian subjects. Many were enlisted in the Roman legions while others were settled in colonies along the northern frontier to form a buffer zone. The Illyrian soldiers performed so magnificently that many of them were selected for service in the Praetorian Guard, Rome’s elite bodyguard for the emperor. A remarkable number of these men were also promoted to the top of the ladder and were known as Illyrian soldier-emperors. These incredible Sons of the Eagle were worthy descendants of Achilles, Philip, Alexander the Great and Pyrrhus.

The Masculine Mysteries And The Quest For The Whiteness: A Synchronicity Workbook, Bernard X. Bovasso, 2006, p.78Albanians were historically (since the Bronze Age, at least) known as professional or mercenary soldiers. Indeed, the Great Alexander was an ancient Albanian.Later, during the Ottoman expansion the Albanians used their talents as guerrilla fighters resisting the Turkish invasion of Greece and the Balkans. The Albanian warrior tradition apparently goes back to the time of ancient Thracians and Illyrians.Hardly interrupted, it was apparently continued by Albanians settled in southern Italy, enlisted in Garibaldi s revolutionary forces”.
The definition of a PALIKARI is, literally, a Brave Warrior...
* "Palikari" is a difficult to translate word, as it is unique to Greek language. In the song "Saranta Palikaria" (from "Odes") the translation is "brave men". Here, the word does not mean this thing, but it is used a compliment to the qualities of the "man" nature, the overall power, natural "manly" beauty and muscular power.
Keto shkelqen nje e vertete per te cilen po bindemi cdo here e me shume:"Paul preached the gospel " round about unto Illyricum." Who preached it to those ancient Albanians ? They do not know. Some suppose that Christians fleeing from the persecutions of the earlier Roman emperors settled in Albania and planted the gospel there. The Albanians received the gospel before the Slavic tribes did. Greece has Greek saints, Rome, Roman saints, and Servia, Servian saints, while the Bulgarians boast of their Slavic apostles ; but I have sought in vain for the name of an Albanian saint, reformer, lawgiver, or philosopher. If you ask for heroes, you find a large supply, including Alexander the Great, Pyrrhus, and Iskender Bey".
