Mirepo, ne fund fare teksti permban nje te pavertete te madhe kur thote se 'Janina, Konica etj ishin thjesht pushtime shqiptare' ne nderkohe s'jep as edhe nje fakt te vetem per ta konkretizuar kete te ashtuquajtur pushtim. Sidoqofte, ne rreshta te meposhtem autori vete e kontradikton veten duke dhene informacione te tjera.
The great divisions of modern Albania are inhabited Divisions by the Ngege, the Toske, the Liape, and the Tzami. and tribes. The Ngege possess the northern district as far downward as Kavaia, and the ancientGenusus. Their chief towns are Dultzuni, Skodre, or Scutari; Ales, or Lcssio, Durazzo, Tarane, and Dibre. The Toske occupy the great plains of the Mizakie and Malakastra, which extend from the hills of Dyrrhachium to Berat and Avlona, together with the mountains bordering on the south side of those plains, as far as Lopesi, Tepelini, and Klisara, all of which are situated on the ancient Aous, now called Viosa. They also occupy the mountains which stretch into Macedonia, as far as the distiict of Koretza. Their chief towns are Berat and Elbasan (the ancient Albanopolis); the former being the most important place in Albania, next to Skodre. The wild mountains between Toskeri and the sea coast form the district of the Laipe ; it extends south to the plain of Delvino. The Tzami inhabit all the region south of the river Kalama, anciently called Thyamis, of which the present name of the tribe has been supposed to be a corruption; the country extends inland toward Ioannina, and is called Dai by the Albanians, Tzamoufia by the Greeks. The chief places are Suli (the Selli ofStrabo), Paramithia, Liuarati, Margarita, Parga, and Aghia.
There are inferior districts which have probably been detached from the above by some of the various masters of Albania, comprehending the maritime country opposite Corfu, called Parakalamo, the fertile plain of Delvino, near the ancient Phcerrice, Deropul, Zagoria, and the mountains east of the Deropul, Reze, Khimara, KaraMurata, Premedi and Kolonia. The districts of Ioannina, Paleo-Pogoniana and Konitza, are conquests of the Albanians, rather than a portion of this country, and in the above enumeration of its divisions, those which are purely Albanian, have been followed.

The Albanian or Skipetaric, is not a written language. Sometimes, in the southern provinces, the Albania. Greek characters have been used to represent Albanian words, but as the Greek itself is familiar to the educated classes, it is generally used in writing.

I am unable to speak with certainty of the population of this city, which I have heard variously estimated from twentyfour to forty, or even fifty thousand. I should conjecture, from the best information I was able to collect, that the real number of inhabitants is about 30,000, exclusively of the Albanian soldiers who are quartered in the place. This population is composed of Greeks, Turks, Albanians, and Jews; the Greeks, piobably, in largest proportion; and certainly most respectable in wealth and acquirements. They, too, are the eldest inhabitants of the city; many of their families, as it is said, having been established here for many centuries: they form the great body of merchants at Ioannina; some are settled officially about the court of the Vizier, as agents and secretaries ; while others, lower in rank, are found in the capacity of shopkeepers and artizans throughout tbe city

The history of the tyrant of Ioannina. is closely connected with that of the Greeks, on whose political changes he exerted great influence, though his conquered dominions extended no further south than Epirus. His capital, Ioannina, or as others call it, Yanina, was situated in Lower Albania, the ancient Epirus. The condition of this country, and that surrounding it, first claims our attention, otherwise the reader will be unable to understand what is to follow.

While the Christian inhabitants of the plains either retired before the conquerors, or became their vassals, the hardy peasantry of the mountains retained possession of their native soil, where they were joined by many of the Lowlanders, fleeing from Turkish tyranny. Pra ""greket"" nuk jane vendas aspak, ata ju perkasin valeve te hershme te tregetareve(te pakten ne Janine), qe kurrsesi nuk perbejne nje race, ne kuptimin e mirefillte etnik dhe cfaredo qe ata te kene qene ne lashtesi, nuk mund te zevendesojne njeri-tjetrin ne kete kuptim.

Henry Fanshawe Tozer, etnograf i njohur, pergjithesisht ka shkruajtur ne menyre realistike per shqiptaret duke evidentuar lashtesine e tyre, territorin, traditat dhe heronjte kombetar te tyre: Leken e Madh, Pirron, Skenderbeun e Aliun.

Nje pjese intriguese me duket pershkrimi i tij ne lidhje me Epirin si dhe (para) gjykimet e tij ne lidhje me atlasin demografik te Epirit.

1) Autori e nis ne menyre korrekte duke bere lokalizimin e sakte: Souther Albania or Epirus
2) Gjirokastren e konsideron si pike-pjekje midis dy "nacionaliteteve" sipas tij - shqiptareve dhe grekeve (!!!).
3) Edhe pse e ben kete ndarje autori prape thote se pertej Gjirokastres ne Shqiperine Jugore mund te ndahet ne dy pjese:
a) Ne lindje te Janines, lugines se saj, Artes dhe Aspropotamo popullata eshte "pure Greek" (gje qe s'eshte e vertete per shkak se ne Janine (qyteti) dhe ne lindje te saj gjejme shume vendbanime shqiptare ne mesin e zonave vllahe. Pra, autori do te qe me i sakte sikur te thoshte qe pjesa ne lindje te Janines banohet prej vlleheve ose vlleheve te helenizuar.
b) Ne perendim te Janines vendi banohet prej dy "racave": shqiptareve dhe 'grekeve' dhe ketu autori merr si shembull Suliotet 'pure Albanians' qe ne familje flisnin vetem shqip u identifikuan si 'grek' meqe trimeria e vlerat e tyre rane me teper ne sy gjate kohes per pavaresine e Greqise (sa term i pasakte ky i fundmi!).
4) Nderkohe kur autori pershkruan qytetin e madh te Janines, ben kategorizime fetare: te krishtere grek (qe do te thote te krishtere ortodoks), muslimane dhe cifute.

Me nje fjale e meta e udhepershkruesve te shumte eshte qe bejne pergjithesime te ngutshme si pasoje e ngaterresave qe i shkaktonte perdorimi i 'gjuhes zyrtare' te tregtise dhe kishes ne Epir. E folura zyrtare s'perben kurrfare prove per te foluren vernakulare sic deshmon me konkretisht rasti i Sulioteve.
Me nje fjale, modeli i Sulioteve duhet te merret si intepretim i 'greqizmes' (menyres si u konceptua ajo) per mbare Epirin. Ta zeme edhe vllehet te cilet qe moti rane ne kurthin e Kishes e tregtise perdornin 'greqishten'. Mirepo a i bente kjo grek ata?

A eshte korrekt interpretimi im i librit te Tozerit?

A translation of the New Testament into the Albanian Language has entwined itself about my heart, for these several years past, in such a way that I literally could nut get rid of it: and though at Corfu the prospect began to open, yet nothing decisive was theie effected. We propose to print it with the text of Hilarion's Translation, in parallel columns. This will render it more useful in the 'first instance ; as there are such a number of Albanians who are but imperfectly acquainted with the Modern Greek, ami of Greeks who understand but imperfectJy the Albanian. These will more easily learn to read and understand the precise truths of the Gospel, when presented to them in the two languages, than la either of them separately

The province of Albania, which extends along the Adriatic and Ionian Seas from the borders of Dalmatia to Greece, is inhabited by a brave but ignorant people, who have often signalized themselves in war; thev are called Araauts by the Turks, and are characterized by their hardihood and great bodily strength, by their activity and courage, and by their simple mode of life : the majority of them profess themselves disciples of the Greek church. Albania was the country of the famous prince George Castriot, generally known by the name of Scanderbeg, who, with a small army, opposed for many years all the power of the Turks, and beat them in twenty-two battles. At his death, he left his country to the Venetians ; hut they were unable to maintain the inland part of it, which was accordingly soon reduced by Mahomet the 2d, and bis successors finally made themselves masters of the whole province.

31. The chief town of Albania is Janina, or Joannina as it is also written, situated in the Southern part of the province, on the Western shores of a cognominal lake, and not far from the site of the old oracle of Dodona. It is about five miles in circumference, and is surrounded by a wall; it possesses two tolerably respectable academies, and the inhabitants are represented as more polished and better educated than in almost any other Greek town ; they consist chiefly of Greeks and Albanians, with a few Turks and Jews. Janina was founded in the 15th century, and in the beginning of tiie 19th it became famous as the capital of the late monster Ali Pacha, a chief who exercised unlimited power, and brought under his dominion not only the province which had been originally committed to his charge, but the whole of Albania and a considerable part of Thessaly. By extortion and rapine he contrived to secure himself an ample revenue, and to defend himself from the vengeance of the Porte by a powerful standing army ; but be fell a victim at last to his own perfidy and cruelty.

32. About 30 miles to the S. W. of Janina, and about 10 from the Ionian Sea, lies the district of Souli, the country of the brave Souliotes, who defended themselves for nearly 20 years against the invasions of Ali Pacha. They were a tribe of Greeks, about 10,000 in number, who maintained themselves for some time in the form of an independent republic: their country contained about 18 villages, and was almost surrounded by inaccessible mountains. It was not till the year 1803 that Ali Pacha succeeded in depriving them of their liberty, when many of those who escaped from his barbarity, took service in Russia and France: their country is at present, like all the rest of Albania, subject to the Porte. Farther S. is Arta, situated on the left bank of a river of the same name, which runs into the Gulf of Arta; it is the residence of several European consuls, and its inhabitants, about 6,000 in number, carry on a considerable trade. Valeria, or Avlona as it is also called, stands on a gulf of the same name, about the centre of Albania, and opposite the South Eastern extremity of Italy; it has an indifferent port, but its situation renders it an important place, and adds materially to its commerce.

Edhe ky pamflet qe avokon 'Helenicitetin' e Epirit dhe te "drejten legjitime" per me u bashkue me Greqine pranon qe pjeset qe potencialisht do te cedoheshin prej Greqise ishin prapseprape jo-greke:
But while Turkey objected
to yielding anything except a small slice of
territory on the Gulf of Volo, Greece, encour-
aged by France, not only claimed the whole of
the basins drained by the two rivers referred
to in the Berlin Treaty, but also several dis-
tricts lying to the north of those basins. The
boundary suggested by Greece in December,
1879, embraced a territory of 9,400 square
miles, with a population of 650,000 souls. It
will be seen that Greece cLiimed about 900
square miles, with 115,000 inhabitants, more
than the Berlin conference was found willing to
concede. Greece, however, is to be put in pos-
session of Janina, which lies within the basin
of the Kalamas. Its lake, draining into that
river through underground channels, has been
allotted to Greece, but not the main road
which connects the capital of Epirus with the
coast opposite Corfu. The district of the Za-
gory, on the upper Vovussa or Viossa, which
has been, since 1850, in the enjoyment of auton-
omous institutions, is cut in twain by the new
boundary. In Thessaly, on the other hand,
Greece has obtained nearly all she demanded,
and the valley of Tempe and the lofty ranges
of Olympus are to lie within the territory of
the Hellenes. According to nationality, there
live in the territory to be ceded to Greece, in
accordance with the Berlin conference, about
366,000 Greeks, 80,000 Zinzars, 50,000 Alba-
nians, 45,000 Turks, and 4,000 Jews. In Thes-
saly the fertile plains extending between La-
rissa, Pharsala, and Volo are almost wholly in
the occupation of Turkish agriculturists.
The
ranges of the Pindus, which separate Thessaly
from Epirus, are inhabited by Zinzars, Kutzo,
or Pindo-Wallachians, a Latin race akin to the
Roumanians, and, like them, supposed to be the
descendants of Roman legionaries.
These Zin-
zars are a thrifty people, who readily amalga-
mate with the Greeks. In Epirus, though the
Greeks are in a majority, there exists a strong
Albanian element.
The Mohammedan Alba-
nians, not exceeding 15,000 in number, seem
to be averse to be severed from their country-
men in the north ; but not so the Christian
Albanians. None fought more vigorously for
Greek independence than the Albanian Suli-
otes.
Greek is universally understood through-
out Epirus.

Cedimin e Epirit ne favor te Greqise nuk e kane kundershtuar vetem Shqiptaret Muslimane por edhe ata te Krishtere. Vete fakti qe ka pase luftime midis te krishtereve dhe ushtrise se Greqise tregon per 'vullnetin' e te pareve per t'iu bashkangjite Greqise.
